Grammy Red Carpet: Rihanna, Katy Perry, Adele Shine

Our experts take a look at A-list artists who dazzled in glamorous gowns and over-the-top looks.

<P>Despite the <a href="/news/articles/1679029/whitney-houston-dead.jhtml">shocking death</a> of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/houston_whitney/artist.jhtml">Whitney Houston</a> on Saturday, the biggest stars in music graced the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy</a> red carpet Sunday to not only honor the late icon, but also to celebrate one of the biggest nights in music and <a href="http://style.mtv.com/">fashion</a>.

</P><P>
</P><P>The lady of the night, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a>, sparkled from head to toe on the red carpet in a black Armani gown, showing off a lighter hair color in her first performance since having <a href="/news/articles/1673944/adele-throat-surgery-recovery.jhtml">vocal-cord surgery</a>.
</P><P>
</P><P><a href="http://style.mtv.com/2012/02/12/grammy-awards-fashion-best-dressed/"><b>MTV Style picks their best-dressed at the Grammys.</b></a>
</P><P>
</P><P>Fellow British artist Jessie J shined on her first Grammy red carpet, turning heads in a gray Julien Macdonald gown. "I just wanted to wear something that I don't usually wear, which is silver, something long and very heavy," Jessie told MTV News. "I feel like a disco ball at the event."
</P><P>
</P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a> was <a href="/news/articles/1679098/grammy-awards-katy-perry.jhtml">feeling blue at the Grammys</a>, matching her blue hairstyle to a light-blue, long-sleeved Elie Saab gown. "One of my absolute favorites of the night was Katy Perry," <a href="http://www.celebuzz.com/" target="_blank">Celebuzz</a> producer Rachel Maresca told MTV News. "She paired her bold, blue hair with a very light-blue Elie Saab lace gown. She looked stunning, and it's a more subdued look for her. We don't always see that out of her, but it is very glamorous."
</P><P>
</P><P>Another statement dress belonged to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/fergie_bep_/artist.jhtml">Fergie</a>, who called her Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown her "safe choice," which it was far from. The vibrant orange lace gown allowed her black bra and panties to see through, but according to Fergie, when Gaultier gives you a custom look, you have to wear it.
</P><P>

</P><P>
</P><P>Yet, out of all these amazing artists, it seems the fashion night belonged to Rihanna. Jaws dropped as she worked the carpet in a one-of-a-kind Armani dress that she helped design. With a plunging neckline and a deep halter, this dress hugged every curve to perfection.

Michael Bay’s ‘Transformers 4′ Leaves Fans Divided

Filmmaker’s impending return to the Autobots-Decepticons war is a hot topic of debate on this week’s ‘Talk Nerdy.’
By Josh Wigler

The big-screen return of Optimus Prime was all but guaranteed when “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” earned more than a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. But less certain was the return of Michael Bay, the outspoken filmmaker who directed all three movies in the “Transformers” trilogy. Like leading man Shia LaBeouf before him, Bay hinted that “Dark of the Moon” would be his last time driving the Autobots forward. But as with all things “Transformers,” it appears there was more than meets the eye with that story.

Bay’s return for “Transformers 4″ was confirmed this week during a conversation between MTV News and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. While most fans are thrilled at the prospect of seeing future “Transformers” films, others are skeptical about the return of Bay. That very question — to Bay or not to Bay — is one of the top topics of conversation in this week’s edition of “Talk Nerdy.” Check out the debate in the video below, and keep reading for more from this week’s show!

Autobots Keep Decepticons at Bay
When it comes to “Transformers,” Bay brings a lot to the table: money, name recognition and explosions aplenty. That formula has worked well for the past three “Transformers” movies, but is Bay really the right man for what’s supposed to be a wholesale reboot? Team Nerdy was divided on the issue. See what they think in this week’s episode.

Spidey Goes Viral
Beyond Bay, big news in the nerdy-movie space involved the arrival of a new “Amazing Spider-Man” viral campaign this week. On Monday, Peter Parker’s backpack was dropped off at MTV News, followed a day later by a cell phone and cryptic message urging your friendly neighborhood Splash Page editor to stay tuned for further instructions. The details of the viral campaign remain unclear, but one thing’s for sure: Anticipation for “Amazing Spider-Man” has never been higher. Watch “Talk Nerdy” for the gang’s thoughts on the webslinger’s big-screen comeback.

Burning for “Ghost Rider”
It’s war at the box office this weekend as Chris Pine and Tom Hardy team up for “This Means War,” going toe-to-flaming-skull against “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.” Both are worthy films in their own right, according to the Nerdy team, though only one of these movies features burning urine. Proceed to your local theaters accordingly.

What do you think of this week’s “Talk Nerdy” discussion? Tell us in the comments!

‘This Means War’ Stars Debate Love Triangles

‘They make life more exciting,’ Chris Pine tells MTV News at premiere.
By Kara Warner

Woe is the woman entangled in a complicated, messy love triangle — particularly one that involves easy-on-the-eyes actors Chris Pine (“Star Trek”) and Tom Hardy (“Warrior,” “Inception”). This is the dilemma Reese Witherspoon faces as lucky lady in love with two very-eligible CIA operatives in “This Means War,” released Friday (February 17). Hopefully, you can read our sarcasm, because we don’t feel any ounce of sympathy for Witherspoon, as she had the best of both worlds working on the film.

There are, of course, pitfalls to real-life love triangles, so when MTV News hit up the premiere of the new action-filled romantic comedy, we asked the stars to debate the pros and cons of being caught between two eligible romantic interests.

“I guess the pros of a love triangle is that they make life more exciting,” Pine offered.

Abigail Spencer, who plays Hardy’s character’s ex-wife, said, “I think there’s only cons,” adding “I think the only pro is that you might discover who you actually like by having a distraction but it forces you to make a decision.”

“I can’t even answer that question,” Hardy admitted. “I’m trying to think of too many literal answers.”

Chelsea Handler, meanwhile, provided a thoughtful answer to our poll: “You get to have sex with two people simultaneously, but at some point, you have to tell the truth to both people so they’re OK with it, and then you have to pick one,” she said. “It should only happen for a myopic period of time.”

“I wouldn’t know from any personal experiences,” Witherspoon chimed in. “But from the movie, I think it’s very complicated dating best friends.”

The film’s director, McG, admitted to speaking from personal experience: “That’s difficult to ask because I’ve only been on the losing end of any love triangle I’ve been a part of because all of my friends are super good-looking.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “This Means War.”

Run-DMC Recall ‘My Adidas’ Impact, 25 Years Later

‘It was bigger than just talking about how many pairs of sneakers we had,’ Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels tells MTV News.

By Alvin Blanco

<P><b>NEW YORK</b> — A quarter century after <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/run_dmc/artist.jhtml">Run-DMC</a> dedicated a song to their sneaker brand of choice, DMC is still rocking his Adidas for hip-hop.

On Friday morning (November 11), Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of the seminal Queens rap group was in the Harlem USA clothing store on 125th Street signing autographs for fans who purchased a special Adidas Originals Superstar 80s model commemorating the 25th anniversary of Run-DMC's "My Adidas."

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:710696" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

The song was released in 1986 and appears on Run-DMC's triple-platinum <i>Raising Hell</i> album. The hit record was inspired by more than just bragging and boasting about their collection of kicks, though.

"It was a song that was about our sneakers, but it was bigger than just talking about how many pairs of sneakers we had," DMC told MTV News. "It came from the place of people would look at the b-boys, the b-girls and go, 'Oh, those are the people that cause all the problems in here.' And, 'Those young people are nothing but troublemakers and those young people don't know nothing.' So they was judging the book by its cover, without seeing what was inside of it."

DMC continued, "So me, Run and [Jam Master] Jay was like, 'Yeah, we going to make a record about our Adidas.' Yeah, we wear Adidas [with] no laces, we got gold chains, we got Cazals and all of that, but I go to St. John's University. These Adidas stepped onstage at Live Aid. People gave and the poor got paid. It was about taking the image of the b-boy and b-girl and letting the world know we're a people of vision, we're inspiration, motivation, we're educated too. So it's kind of a kick in the face to the people that was hating on hip-hop."

Run-DMC's lyrical certification of "shelltoe" Adidas led to the first-ever endorsement deal between a music act and an athletic company. The limited-edition "My Adidas" Superstar 80s model is the same shoe Run, DMC and Jam Master Jay wore back in the day with special details like the JMJ logo on the heel, "1986" stitched on the side and a gold lace lock designed to look like a dookie-rope gold chain. Only 1,986 of the shoes will be made for sale to the public.

Back in 1986, Run-DMC said seeing all their fans rock Adidas sneakers and gear on the strength of their co-sign was actually a bit disconcerting. "It was scary," DMC said. "We was going through Detroit, through Boston, through Chicago, through LA, through Virginia; every city we went to on the <i>Raising Hell</i> Tour, we would look out the back of the tour bus and everybody had the Adidas [track] suits from head to toe. The Cazals, the hats, the Kangols, and they had those Adidas on. You would think we would sit in the back of the bus and go, 'Yo, we gonna get paid!' "

However, the trio were aware of the responsibility their tastemaking influence carried. "Me, Run and Jay, we sat back and said, 'We gotta watch what we do and we gotta watch what we say,' " DMC said. "Because the music, the image, the concepts was so powerful, if they're going to wear Adidas because we say it's cool, that means they would drink, abuse, fight because of this. We got nervous. I always remember Jay said, 'Yo, this hip-hop stuff is really powerful, man. We gotta watch what we say and what we present to the world.' "

<i>Share your memories of Run-DMC's late-'80s heyday in the comments!</i></p>

Grammys 2012 Night Winners And Losers

Adele, Jennifer Hudson, LL Cool J nail it, while Nicki Minaj stumbles.

By Gil Kaufman

Adele accepts the award for Best Pop Solo Performance at the Grammys on Sunday

Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage

<P>Any way you cut it, Sunday night's <a
href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys">Grammys</a> were huge for <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a>, the Foo Fighters and <a href="/news/articles/1679068/grammy-2012-kanye-west-wins.jhtml">Kanye West</a>. All three artists came away with an armload of golden gramophones at a ceremony that artfully managed to celebrate the vibrancy of contemporary music while finding just the right way to pay tribute to <a href="/news/articles/1679029/whitney-houston-dead.jhtml">fallen diva</a> <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/houston_whitney/artist.jhtml">Whitney Houston</a>.

<a href="/news/articles/1679105/grammys-2012-recap-adele.jhtml">Adele swept the night's major categories</a>, taking Song, Record and Album of the Year on the way to putting a check beside all six of her nominations, with the Foos just behind with five wins and an absent Kanye nabbing four. But who really stole the spotlight at the show and who managed to win without nabbing any hardware?

<center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:733290/cp~id%3D1679149%26vid%3D733290%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A733290%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center>

Let's take a look at the true winners and losers at the ceremony.

<B>Winner: LL Cool J</B>
Not only did Uncle L get some serious prime-time exposure and represent for hip-hop on music's biggest night, but he opened the show with a thoughtful, perfectly measured prayer for Houston that set the tone for the entire evening.

<B>Winner: Jennifer Hudson</B>
Note to any singer thinking about tackling "I Will Always Love You"
ever again: Don't bother. <a
href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/hudson__jennifer/artist.jhtml">Hudson</a>'s spine-tingling, perfectly pitched <a href="/news/articles/1679100/grammys-2012-whitney-houston-jennifer-hudson-tribute.jhtml">tribute to Whitney</a> was a show-stopping cover of the trickiest, biggest song in the late singer's repertoire that nearly stole the night. It was made all the more dramatic by the feeling that avowed superfan Hudson was legitimately on the verge of tears throughout the performance.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:733150.id:1679087" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

<B>Loser: Nicki Minaj</B>
Though it had plenty of energy, Nicki's confusing, all-over-the-place "Exorcist"-meets-sexy-gothic/horror religious allegory was <a href="/news/articles/1679117/2012-grammys-nicki-minaj-reactions.jhtml">Grammy night's most polarizing performance</a>. Parts of "Roman's Holiday" felt ripped right from the Madonna and Lady Gaga handbook of outrage — fitting, since Gaga's former right-hand woman/choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, was Nicki's collaborator — but some hip-hop purists felt she was reaching for the pop brass ring too hard.

<B>Loser: Anyone who thought they were going to win a major award</B> As if there had been any question going into the night who would take the three biggies, it became clear, despite some tough competition from Best New Artist Bon Iver, Bruno Mars, the Foo Fighters, Gaga and Kanye, that this would be Adele's night.

<B>Winner: Adele</B>
See above. Her comeback performance and well-deserved win were a shot in the arm to the recording industry and a win for the Academy for recognizing new talent.

<B>Winner: Foo Fighters</B>
The nice-guy Grammy-bait band had a big night and two high-energy performances that cemented their status as their generation's most consistent, hard-working rock act. Plus, they pulled off that <a href="/news/articles/1679115/2012-grammys-foo-fighters.jhtml">mashup with deadmau5</a> while totally keeping their dignity intact.

<B>Winner: EDM/Skrillex</B>
As if the millions of rave-happy kids across the planet needed the validation, Sunday night was the global coming-out party for the electronic dance music genre. <a href="/news/articles/1679070/grammys-2012-skrillex-wins.jhtml">Skrillex nabbed three awards</a>, and the tribute segment featuring deadmau5 and David Guetta was one of the night's most unexpected surprises.

<B>Loser: Lady Gaga</B>
Used to being the center of attention, Gaga kept her seat all night as she tried to look comfortable in a netted mask, metallic outfit and oversized golden cane.

<B>Winner: Chris Brown</B>
Making his return to the show three years after he scratched following his <a href="/news/articles/1678898/rihanna-chris-brown-grammys-2012.jhtml">assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna</a>, <a href="/news/articles/1679084/grammy-awards-chris-brown-performance.jhtml">Brown commanded the stage</a> with an acrobatic performance. More importantly, while accepting the Best R&B Album award for <I>F.A.M.E.,</I> he kept it brief and thanked the two constituencies that paved his road to redemption: his fans and the Recording Academy.

<center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:732065/cp~id%3D1678854%26vid%3D732065%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A732065%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center>

Jessica Simpson ‘Enjoying Being Engaged’

"I haven't started shopping for our wedding yet," she tells the magazine. "When I got engaged, everyone thought I would get married immediately, but I have not put a single dress on, and by the time this comes out, I will not be married! We're just enjoying being engaged right now, and that's honest."

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/thumbnails.jhtml?fid=1673490&view=thumb"><b>Photos: Jessica Simpson's budding baby bump!</a></b>

Simpson and former football player <a href="/news/articles/1652269/jessica-simpson-from-newlyweds-to-newly-engaged.jhtml">Eric Johnson</a> got engaged last year, and on Monday, she broke the news that the couple is expecting their first child together. "When I met him, I just felt so comfortable with myself and where I was in my life that if he didn't want to be part of it, he didn't have to be," she explains about her feelings on love when she and Johnson first started dating. And she says that these days, she's driven by a whole new set of ambitions — none of which has to with life as a celebrity.

"I'm not looking for more fame or money," the mom-to-be adds. "I am very secure in those areas."

The singer/actress/mogul also talks a bit about the chatter around her figure, saying that despite any criticism she might receive for her curves, "I like the way I look."

"Everybody fluctuates, but I'm open about my weight, and I'm still confident. I didn't cry about it too much," she explains. "I got so much scrutiny for putting on extra pounds, but I think that the decision not to make myself anorexic was actually great for branding. Because when you're really, really skinny, not everybody can relate to you. All kinds of women started coming up to me and saying what an example I was setting by not constantly dieting."</p>

While most of this year's performances are being kept under wraps, a spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions announced Monday (October 24) that Aguilera and Maroon 5 will team up on their current smash <a href="/news/articles/1671742/moves-like-jagger-maroon-5-aguilera.jhtml">"Moves Like Jagger"</a> at this year's AMAs, which will air live on ABC on November 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Nick Lachey Wishes Jessica Simpson, Eric Johnson ‘The Very Best’

Jess’ ex says he’s still ‘basking in the glow’ of his own engagement.

<P>First she sent her well-wishes to <a href="/news/articles/1652083/jessica-simpson-insists-shes-happy-for-engaged-nick-lachey.jhtml">Nick Lachey on his engagement</a> to Vanessa Minnillo, and now Lachey is returning the favor by sending his love to his newly engaged ex-wife, Jessica Simpson.

"I will say the same thing I always say: I wish her the very best," he told <a href="http://www.usmagazine.com/celebritynews/news/nick-lachey-speaks-out-on-jessica-simpsons-surprise-engagement-20101511" target="_blank">UsMagazine.com</a> about <a href="/news/articles/1652213/jessica-simpson-engaged-to-eric-johnson.jhtml">Simpson's engagement</a> to football player Eric Johnson. As for his own engagement, Lachey is still adjusting to it.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:597457" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

He explained that he's "still basking in the glow" of his plans to marry the <a href="/news/articles/1651616/nick-lachey-and-vanessa-minnillo-tracking-their-love-on-mtv.jhtml">former MTV VJ</a> and "enjoying that. I'm sure we'll get on the other planning shortly. We are now just enjoying this experience." He added that it's "very exciting" to see "what the future brings to us." Asked why it took him so many years to ask Minnillo to marry him, he said, "All things have their appropriate time, so thank you."

Jessica married fellow pop star Lachey in October 2002. The pair documented their marriage on their hit MTV series, "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica." But their sweet kisses turned sour when <a href="/news/articles/1518454/jessica-simpson-files-for-divorce.jhtml">Simpson and Lachey</a> split in 2005; their divorce was finalized the following year. Since then, <a href="/news/articles/1652269/jessica-simpson-from-newlyweds-to-newly-engaged.jhtml">Simpson had been linked to John Mayer</a>, Tony Romo and Billy Corgan before meeting Johnson.

<a href="/news/articles/1652218/jessica-simpsons-dad-tweets-congrats-to-newly-engaged-daughter.jhtml">Jessica's dad, Joe Simpson,</a> expressed his own elation when he took to Twitter to congratulate her. "So very happy for Jess and Eric," he wrote on Sunday night. "May they have a lifetime of joy and happiness."

Simpson flashed her engagement ring on Saturday at an appearance at Dillard's in Overland Park, Kansas. UsMagazine.com reported that the ring is a ruby surrounded by two diamonds, designed by celebrity jeweler Neil Lane. Johnson reportedly popped the question on Thursday. Their rep confirmed the news in a statement: "Yes, we are excited to confirm that they are engaged!"</p>

<P>When <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> officially launches her <a href="/news/articles/1677562/lady-gaga-born-this-way-foundation.jhtml">Born This Way Foundation</a> on February 29, she'll be joined by the one-time queen of daytime TV, Oprah Winfrey.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:683376.id:1669247" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

The singer and former talk-show host will be joined by Mother Monster's own mother, Cynthia Germanotta, at the Harvard University event to kick off the foundation, which aims to inspire young people. The affair will be captured for a future episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter" on her OWN network.

"My mother and I have initiated a passion project. We call it the <a href="/news/articles/1673633/lady-gaga-born-this-way-foundation.jhtml">Born This Way Foundation</a>," Gaga said in a statement last November about the foundation, which takes its name from her hit single and album. "Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment."

The foundation will work with a number of partners, including the John D. &amp; Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the California Endowment and the Berkman Center for Internet &amp; Society at Harvard University. According to the statement, the foundation will focus on "youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change."

"My daughter's foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be," Mama Germanotta said. "She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society."</p>

Nicki Minaj Shows Three Sides Of Herself On Magazine Covers

The rapper talks fashion, feminism and Jay-Z in interviews with Vibe, Allure and New York

By Jocelyn Vena

<P>As <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/minaj__nicki/artist.jhtml">Nicki Minaj</a> prepares to release her new album, <a href="/news/articles/1679366/nicki-minaj-pink-friday-roman-reloaded.jhtml"><i>Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,</i></a> in April, she's all over newsstands. She will appear on three different magazine covers, each showing different sides of the rapper and touching on her many philosophies about her career, her persona and her place in the rap world.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:733768" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

<a href="http://www.allure.com/beauty-trends/blogs/daily-beauty-reporter/2012/02/nicki-minaj-sneak-preview-allures-next-cover.html" target="_blank"><i>Allure</i></a> teased its April cover featuring Minaj, in which the sassy songstress sports a big, pink tulle skirt. In the interview, she opens up about telling Jay-Z he really does need to <i>Watch the Throne</i> with her around. "I had a little conversation with Jay-Z at the Victoria's Secret fashion show," she recalled. "He said, 'Congratulations on all your success.' And I was like, 'Yeah, I'm coming for you. I'm coming for your spot, Mr. Mogul.' "

Speaking of her supreme-queen dominance, on the cover of the February/March issue of <a href="http://www.vibe.com/post/nicki-minajs-vibe-febmar-2012-cover-here-127895" target="_blank"><i>Vibe,</i></a> she's donning a sparkling crown and inside the issue she talks all about her place in the game as a woman.

"It's not hard to get your way when it's your way or the highway. People either follow suit or they're not around. I don't really like the sound of that, 'cause that sounds like a temper tantrum. I'm just very black and white when it comes to my business," she said. "There's really no gray area. I really don't have a lot of small talk with people I work with. It's pretty much let's get the job done. In the beginning, if people didn't know me they'd probably assume I wasn't smart or wasn't business savvy. But once you sit and talk to me, it's a different story."

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:680667" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

And, then there's her watercolor-y <a href="http://nymag.com/fashion/12/spring/nicki-minaj-interview-2012-2" target="_blank"><i>New York </i></a> cover where the fashionista talks about her place among the hip fashion crowd. "I'm not impressed to be in that world. I'm in my own world. I think sometimes the fashion world isn't even about clothes anymore; it's about this 'in' crowd, and I'm not into that," she explained, after sharing what her fashion mantra is. "I like the idea of doing something that everyone else is not. I get high off that. Just the idea that other people don't have the balls to do something — that's my thing."

Rihanna Raises A Glass To Fans In ‘Cheers’ Video

Avril Lavigne cameos in montage of celebrations off- and onstage.

<P>Summer is coming to a close, but it looks like <a href="/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml">Rihanna</a> is going to keep the party going for a little longer. On Friday (August 26), the pop force debuted the video for her celebratory tune "Cheers (Drink to That)," a behind-the-scenes concert montage with brief cameo appearances by <a href="/music/artist/lavigne_avril/artist.jhtml">Avril Lavigne</a>, <a href="/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a> and <a href="/music/artist/west_kanye/artist.jhtml">Kanye West</a>.

Chanting fans kick off the almost-five minute clip, which cuts between candid footage of the songstress backstage before and after her shows, and enjoying the festivities during her recent trip to Barbados. Rocking some denim blue shorts, a colorful cropped top and sunglasses, Rihanna also gives fans a glimpse of her performance of the tune during her <i>Loud</i> tour set. "Cheers (Drink to That)" samples Avril Lavigne's yodel from her 2002 hit "I'm With You," so it's only appropriate that the visual includes sporadic blink-of-the-eye appearances from the pop rocker horsing around by the pool.

"It was really exciting because 'I'm With You' is one of my favorite songs that I've done, I always love performing it," <a href="/news/articles/1654946/avril-lavigne-excited-that-rihanna-sampled-her-song.jhtml">Lavigne said</a> last year of being sampled on "Cheers."

"Cheers to the freaking weekend/ I drink to that, yeah yeah/ Oh, let the Jameson sink in/ I drink to that, yeah yeah/ Don't let the bastards get you down/ Turn it around with another round/ There's a party at the bar everybody put your glasses up and I drink to that," Rihanna sings, almost casually, as she's seen toasting fans and friends onstage and in bars.

Hours after the debut, Rih took to <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/rihanna/status/107017376440139776" target="_blank">Twitter</a> to ask fans what they thought about the clip, writing, "CHEERS… U like??? #drinktothat #RihannaNavy I love yall forever!!!!! Keep making me proud!"

The Rihanna Navy has been pushing for the singer to release "Cheers (Drink to That)" since the LP's release, and there's no denying that the Barbados beauty also has love for the song. "I love that song ['Cheers']. That is one of my favorite songs on the album. It makes you feel like celebrating," <a href="/news/articles/1652434/rihanna-glad-avril-lavigne-appears-on-louds-cheers.jhtml">Rihanna told MTV News</a> last year. "It gives you a great feeling inside, like you want to go out and have a drink. … People can't wait for the weekend."</p>

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.

By James Montgomery

Photo: Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty Images

<P>Officially, <a href="/news/articles/1617945/janes-addiction-killers-turn-up-heat-on-lollapaloozas-last-day.jhtml">Lollapalooza ended Sunday night</a> in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from <a href="/music/artist/killers_the/artist.jhtml">the Killers</a> and <a href="/music/artist/janes_addiction/artist.jhtml">Jane's Addiction</a>. Unofficially, it ended <i>very</i> early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.

To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend … until you realize that they're made up of <a href="/music/artist/foo_fighters/artist.jhtml">Foo Fighters</a> frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, <a href="/music/artist/queens_stone_age/artist.jhtml">Queens of the Stone Age</a> mastermind Josh Homme and <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a> legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.

According to <a href="http://blogs.suntimes.com/derogatis/2009/08/them_crooked_vultures_at_metro.html" target="_blank">some reports</a>, the Vultures actually turned <i>down</i> Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.

Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called <i>Never Deserved the Future,</i> and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).

The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — <a href="http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/turn_it_up/2009/08/concert-review-them-crooked-vultures-at-metro.html" target="_blank"><i>Chicago Tribune</i></a> critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the <i>Chicago Sun-Times'</i> Jim DeRogatis.

It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.

Early Monday, a <a href="http://twitter.com/crookedvultures" target="_blank">Crooked Vultures Twitter account</a>, which had previously posted links to the band's <a href="http://www.themcrookedvultures.com/" target="_blank">official-looking Web site</a> and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a <i>Deserve the Future</i> T-shirt. Cost: $30.</p>

<P>Even a dozen years removed from the White House, former president <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/clinton_bill/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Bill Clinton</a> still has that same superstar-attracting aura. That might explain why such bright lights as <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Lady Gaga</a>, Bono and The Edge of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/u2/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">U2</a>, and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Usher</a> have signed on to perform at an October 15 party for <a href="http://www.clintonconcert.com/" target="_blank">Clinton</a> at the Hollywood Bowl.

According to <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/u2-lady-gaga-usher-headline-234222" target="_blank"><i>The Hollywood Reporter</a>,</i> details on the final list of performers and presenters are still being worked on, but an impressive list of movie and TV personalities are expected to sign on for the event, which is being billed as a celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Clinton's nonprofit William J. Clinton Foundation.

To date, the foundation has raised more than $10 billion for some of the ex-president's most cherished causes, including HIV/AIDS treatment, economic empowerment, food aid and global health initiatives. The show, which will also serve as a birthday party celebration for the former Democratic leader (who turned 65 on August 19), will be broadcast exclusively by Yahoo, which will stream "A Decade of Difference: A Concert Celebrating 10 Years of the William J. Clinton Foundation" worldwide to a potential audience of millions.

Clinton continues to travel the world doing good works, though he turned his attention homeward over the weekend when he participated in the 10th anniversary ceremonies of the September 11 terror attacks. He announced on Sunday that he will team with Republican House Speaker John Boehner in a bipartisan effort to raise the final $10 million needed to complete the Fight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.</p>

Eater Tracking : 3rd Street Station Neighborhood Pub Opens Friday

Tuesday, February 14, 2012, by Kat Odell

Screen%20shot%202012-02-14%20at%2010.12.30%20AM.png

Mid City’s restaurant row, aka West 3rd Street, is about to score a new tenant with the inception of 3rd Street Station, that previously tracked neighborhood pub opened by partners Sky Reiss (Magnolia) and Dion Rottman in the shuttered Smokin’ Joint space near La Cienega.

February 17 at 11AM marks the launch, and chef Greg DeMichiel has prepared a hybrid American/European comfort food menu of both small and large plates that sound like New York strip loin with bordelaise sauce and duck fat cippolini onions; pork shoulder chickpea spatzel and pickled brussels sprouts; and sous vide Niman Ranch short rib with a chanterelle mushroom fricassee. Smaller dishes cost about $6 to $7, meanwhile larges entrees range between $9 and $15, so relatively reasonable in price.

To drink one will find classic cocktails, European beers on tap, and a mixed assortment of international wine. 3rd Street Station is open for lunch and dinner, with a separate late-night menu as well. Hours of operation run daily from 11AM to 2AM.

Audrina Patridge, Ke$ha, Adam Lambert Share Prom Memories

‘Me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m.,’ Ke$ha tells MTV News.

By Jocelyn Vena

<P>It's prom season, and that means high schoolers across this great land will be renting tuxes, buying fancy dresses and negotiating the details of their curfews with parents. So, before you take your pictures and get in your limos, we asked some Hollywood A-listers to recall their fondest prom memories.

"I had a great prom," Ne-Yo told MTV News. "I didn't get to go with who I wanted to go with. I got my second choice, but my second choice turned out to be the one I was supposed to be there with, so it turned out good."

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:647708" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

Ke$ha, never one to say no to a party, had the best night of all her friends. "I went to prom with my gay best friend, and let me tell you, I had way more fun than anybody else at a prom with their boyfriends," she recalled. "Everybody else was, like, crying and drama and breaking up, and me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m."

"Hellcats" star Aly Michalka doesn't have a favorite prom memory — because she never went to prom. "I was homeschooled, so I don't even think we had a fake prom," she lamented. "Like, maybe we had a home-school prom and I wasn't invited?"

While everything always seems to be in peril on "The Vampire Diaries," star Nina Dobrev had a less tumultuous night: "Having everyone get together and such a final celebration [is what I remember]."

Romeo went big for his prom. "My senior prom, I remember I pulled up in my red Ferrari. I was feeling like James Bond," he said. "And it was one of the best nights of my life."

"My favorite prom memory was probably going shopping for a dress, and our boyfriends at the time dressed up as 'Dumb &amp; Dumber,' " Audrina Patridge laughed. "And so we were like, 'We can't dress up dorky … we have to look good.' "

Roots drummer ?uestlove made a big decision on the night of his prom: "June 2, 1989, was my very last haircut; prom haircut, totally butchered my hair. He butchered my hair, and I vowed never again to ever get in a barber chair, so I grew that Afro on my prom night."

Adam Lambert said his prom date was a 10, so he definitely had a fun night. "I had a great prom. I had an awesome time," he said. "I went with one of my best friends in high school. Her name was Lauren, and she was really hot. She wore a really hot red dress, so I felt like I had arm candy."

Whitney Houston, Dead At 48: A Big Screen Tribute

Iconic diva appeared in celebrated box-office gems including ‘The Bodyguard’ and ‘Waiting to Exhale.’
By Eric Ditzian

The death of Whitney Houston, who died on Saturday (February 11) at the age of 48, leaves a gaping hole not only in the world of music, but in movies, too.

She may have been best known for belting out R&B power ballads, but Whitney Houston also made an impact in Hollywood — a star in hit movies and a musical presence in countless other films. As we mourn her untimely death and honor her career, let’s take a look back at some of Houston’s cinematic achievements.

“The Bodyguard”
By far Houston’s most celebrated film, this 1992 romantic drama, in which she starred opposite Kevin Costner, became not only a box-office success (more than $400 million at the worldwide box office), but spawned one of the most popular movie soundtracks of all time. The disc won a Grammy for Album of the Year and its first single, “I Will Always Love You,” became one of the best-selling singles ever.

“Waiting to Exhale”
Three years after the success of “The Bodyguard,” Houston teamed with Angela Basset and Loretta Devine for a film about four friends and their various relationship dramas. Babyface produced the score and Houston performed two songs on the soundtrack, which went platinum seven times. Her “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” hit #1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart.

Details Emerge On Whitney Houston’s Final Film ‘Sparkle’

MTV Movie Awards
Houston appeared three times at the MTV Movie Awards, once in 1993 following “The Bodyguard,” again in 1996 after “Waiting to Exhale,” and finally in 1999. In ’93, she was nominated for three awards, including Breakthrough Performance, but came away empty-handed. In ’96, she performed “Why Does It Hurt So Bad,” a single off the “Exhale” soundtrack.

“The Princess Diaries”
The singer never appeared in this Disney teen drama, but she produced the film, which is notable for having been Anne Hathaway’s breakout role. The movie grossed almost $170 million and spawned a sequel. “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,” which Houston also produced, grossed more than $130 million.

“Sparkle”
A remake of the 1976 musical, “Sparkle,” loosely based on Motown’s the Supremes, was slated to be revived with Houston as executive-producer and star. “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks took on the role of Sparkle, with Houston playing her mother (her first movie role since 1996′s “The Preacher’s Wife,” in which she costarred along with Denzel Washington). “Sparkle” was shot in the fall of 2011 and has been slated for an August 17 release.

When MTV News reached out to Sony/ Screen Gems after Houston’s death, we received this statement: “Like all those who knew and loved her, we are shocked and saddened and the world has lost an incomparable talent. Right now our thoughts are with her daughter, her family and her friends.”

Join us for a tribute to Whitney Houston with non-stop music videos on MTV Hits and MTV Jams, all day Sunday.

Share your condolences and memories of Whitney Houston on our Facebook page.

VIDEO: Nicki Minaj LEVITATES & EXORCIZES For “Roman Holiday” GRAMMY Performance

Nicki Minaj "rapped" while suspended in mid-air (never seen that before) on the Grammys Sunday night for an over-produced performance of "Roman Holiday." Watch it inside….

Nicki Minaj (who arrived with "The Pope" & Sarafee) gave a churchy performance of "Roman Holiday" at the Grammys tonight.  And it seemed like she was attempting to do the 2012 even more controversial version of Madonna‘s "Like A Prayer."

There’s a fine line between creativity and hoopla because you can. The performance was ahrd to follow, especally witht he minute and a half "mini movie" she showed and then switched into levitation and holy water for the on stage performance.

Grab your Bibles and watch the performance here:

Skrillex, Foster The People Remember 1991: When Rock Rocked

With the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind around the corner, today’s biggest acts recall 1991′s other classic albums.

By James Montgomery

Red Hot Chili Peppers' <i>Blood Sugar Sex Magik</i>

Photo: Warner Bros.

<P>In a few short weeks, <a href="/music/artist/nirvana/artist.jhtml">Nirvana's</a> epochal <i>Nevermind</i> album turns 20, a milestone that will be marked with much coverage, celebration and consternation in the media — and understandably so. After all, it was a game-changer in every sense of the term, the kind of album that brought about seismic shifts in music, fashion and culture in general, one that defined a generation and, as such, deserves to be mythologized. And, in the coming weeks, we suspect you'll see no shortage of stories that do just that.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:687600.id:1670059" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

While <i>Nevermind</i> casts an indelibly lengthy shadow, it bears mention that there were no shortage of other magical, massive and equally mythological albums that hit stores in 1991 — from mega-platinum rock blockbusters to best-kept indie secrets, and just about everything in between — classics that, had Nirvana never broken through, would probably be getting the royal treatment right now. In 1991, rock truly <i>rocked,</i> so, in celebration of that fact, we've asked some of today's biggest bands to discuss <i>their</i> favorite albums from that rather amazing year. On Wednesday, we heard from <a href="/news/articles/1670050/1991-rock-music-blink-182-death-cab-for-cutie.jhtml">Death Cab for Cutie and Blink-182</a>; now, Skrillex and Foster the People share their faves.

Don't worry, we'll give <i>Nevermind</i> its due — but right now, we're paying tribute to 1991's <i>other</i> indispensible albums, in the words of their biggest fans.

<big><b>Metallica, <i>The Black Album</i></b></big><br>
The one where "old" Metallica ended and "new" Metallica began — at least according to the die-hards — the band's fifth studio album (it's technically self-titled, though, come on, who <i>doesn't</i> call it <i>The Black Album</i>?) saw them drifting away from their slash-and-burn thrash-metal past into a new, decidedly fuller phase, one fleshed out with orchestral flourishes and an increased focus on the booming rhythm section of Jason Newstead and Lars Ulrich. Though its recording was plagued by battles with producer Bob Rock, <i>The Black Album</i> features the band's most iconic songs — "Enter Sandman," "The Unforgiven," "Nothing Else Matters," etc. — and remains their best-selling to date, moving a staggering 22 million copies worldwide. Love it or hate it, you can't deny its impact, both on the band and the next two decades of hard rock.

<b>As Remembered by Skrillex</b>: "Man, <i>The Black Album</i> was me sitting in my room when I was 9 years old, trying to learn all the songs on guitar. That was, for me, rocking <i>out,</i> no reservations, like I was on the stage. And learning the 'Holier Than Thou' riff was, like, the biggest achievement, because it's so <i>hard.</i> Every record on that album is so amazing. … Obviously, 'Enter Sandman,' 'Wherever I May Roam' … that was the first Metallica song I learned, after 'Enter Sandman.' I love <i>The Black Album.</i> It's perfect; it's a masterpiece in every way, from front to back, and it's inspired me, consciously or subconsciously, because I had such a connection to it."

<big><b>Red Hot Chili Peppers, <i>Blood Sugar Sex Magik</i></b></big><br>
One of the most important, celebrated albums of the '90s alt-rock explosion, <i>Blood Sugar</i> saw the Chili Peppers grow up, get deep and, of course, become hugely famous. While songs like "Give It Away" and "Suck My Kiss" still bobbed and weaved with the band's visceral energy, it was on tracks like the massive "Under the Bridge" and "Breaking the Girl" where they slowed things down and found their biggest commercial successes. Recorded by producer Rick Rubin in a supposedly haunted mansion in Laurel Canyon, its creation has become the stuff of rock legend, and though the Peppers would subsequently sag beneath its success (guitarist John Frusciante, unable to cope with his sudden fame, quit the band mid-tour), <i>Blood Sugar</i> still stands as perhaps the finest accomplishment of their 28-year career. It would be nearly four years before they released a follow-up, though, given the album's hugely influential status, you really couldn't blame them.

<b>As Remembered by Mark Pontius, Foster the People</b>: "My favorite record of 1991, and I think the only reason I got this record was my sister had it, and she's older than me, so it just sort of fell into my lap, is Red Hot Chili Peppers' <i>Blood Sugar Sex Magik.</i> I think I have to credit that record [for teaching me] a lot of my drumming skills. John Mayer Quits Twitter

He had amassed more than 3.7 million followers on the site.

<P><a href="/music/artist/mayer_john/artist.jhtml">John Mayer</a> is losing a lot of friends.

A spokesperson for the singer said Mayer has shut down his Twitter account now that he's done with his <i>Battle Studies</i> Tour. He continues to communicate with his fans via <a href="http://www.johnmayer.com/blog" target="_blank">his blog</a>, the rep said. The singer had amassed more than 3.7 million followers on Twitter.

His exit from the micro-blogging site comes months after he dealt with a bit of controversy. Back in February, <a href="/news/articles/1631667/john-mayers-playboy-interview-causes-uproar-online.jhtml">Mayer had an interview with <i>Playboy</i></a> in which he talked about intimate relations with former girlfriend Jessica Simpson and used the N-word.

The whole issue became a hot Twitter topic, and <a href="/news/articles/1631671/john-mayer-apologizes-for-controversial-playboy-interview.jhtml">Mayer tweeted an apology</a> to his followers: "Re: using the 'N word' in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it's such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there's no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged.

"And while I'm using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it's time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews. … It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it's gotten out of hand and I've created somewhat of a monster."

He also tweeted: " I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don't have the stomach for it. Again, because I don't want anyone to think I'm equivocating: I should have never said the word and I will never say it again."

Justin Bieber And Esperanza Spalding: One Year Since Their Grammy Showdown

MTV News looks at what the artists have been up to since Spalding beat out Bieber for Best New Artist at the 2011 Grammys.

By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Last year, <a href="/news/articles/1657863/esperanza-spalding-best-new-artist.jhtml">Esperanza Spalding beat out</a> sure bets like Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine and Drake when she won the Best New Artist prize at the 2011 <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy Awards</a>. The loss was particularly <a href="/news/articles/1657888/justin-bieber-esperanza-spalding.jhtml">hard on Bieber</a>, who spoke to MTV News shortly after the loss.

"I had no clue what was going to happen; I worked really hard these past few years, and you know, I'm not going to lie — I was disappointed," <a href="/news/articles/1657878/justin-bieber-grammy-loss.jhtml">Bieber told MTV News</a> at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. "But, you know, I'm gonna come back [next year] and we'll take a few home. … I'm inspired to work harder than I did last year. It's going to be hard, but I'm going to try."

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:622224.id:1657881" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

<a href="/news/articles/1657892/esperanza-spalding-grammys-best-new-artist.jhtml">Spalding was nearly as floored</a> by the win as Bieber. "I really didn't think it was going to be me," she told MTV News backstage. "I was one of those [surprised] people. … It was so unexpected, that's the truth. I'm grateful to all my people in my big musical family that have given me so much support and help over the years. I don't really think this is for me; it's for all of us. And I wish they could all be here to put one finger on this with me."

In the 12 months since last year's Grammy show, <a href="/news/articles/1676395/justin-bieber-2011-news.jhtml">Bieber has been everywhere</a> and has certainly lived up to his promise to work hard. He's released new music as well as lots of splashy music videos, gone on an arena-filling world tour, dropped a box-office-busting 3-D concert film, hit the studio for his upcoming album <i>Believe</i> and kept teen girls screaming with an onslaught of various new hairstyles and photo ops.

Spalding, on the other hand, has managed to fly under the radar in the time since she took home Grammy gold. However, this March she plans to get back on the scene and release her new album, <i>Radio Music Society,</i> her follow-up to <i>Chamber Music Society,</i> the 2010 album that helped bring national attention to her at the Grammys last year.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:622257.id:1657881" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

"Originally I thought it would be fun to release a double album," she said in a statement about the soon-to-be released album. "One disc with an intimate, subtle exploration of chamber works and a second one in which jazz musicians explore song forms and melodies that are formatted more along the lines of what we would categorize as pop songs. Those are the two things that really interest me, and it intrigues me to think about different presentation approaches while writing each kind of song."

As she sets out to celebrate the anniversary of her win, Spalding dropped a new track, "Black Gold," to radio, and earlier this month she premiered the video for it. She'll also hit the road for a tour that kicks off in April and wraps up in June.

Interestingly enough, <a href="/news/articles/1678841/justin-bieber-drake-collab-believe.jhtml">Bieber is also set</a> to drop his new album later this year, for which he's enlisted Drake, will.i.am, Pharrell and Lil Wayne. Could it mean there will be another Bieber/Spalding showdown at the 2013 Grammy Awards? Only time will tell.

Jessica Simpson’s Fashion Company Worth Nearly $1 Billion

Ex-’Newlyweds’ star’s growing empire had retail sales of $750 million in 2010.

<P><a href="/music/artist/simpson_jessica/artist.jhtml">Jessica Simpson</a> may be less active on the music scene these days, but the singer has been quietly building a fashion empire. <i>Women's Wear Daily</i> reports that Simpson is the face and boss of a nearly $1 billion business.

According to the <a href="http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2010/12/07/jessica-simpson-building-a-1-billion-fashion-empire" target="_blank">report</a>, Simpson's lines — which include shoes, accessories, denim, swimwear, watches and fragrances — have seen a combined gross of $750 million in retail sales this year.

So, what's the secret to her success?

"People like her," Vince Camuto, founder and CEO of Camuto Group, the main licensee of her merchandise, said of the <a href="/news/articles/1652269/jessica-simpson-from-newlyweds-to-newly-engaged.jhtml">recently engaged star</a>. "People look at her as a style icon."

And Simpson shows no signs of slowing down. For fall 2011, the singer is launching a contemporary sportswear line that will include separates and dresses in the $39 to $129 price range; it will be available in more than 650 stores in the U.S. and Canada. The singer explained, "This new sportswear line reflects my evolving style, which combines comfort, femininity and flirty fun."

While Simpson hasn't announced any plans to start designing bridal gowns, she's currently planning her <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20446240,00.html" target="_blank">wedding</a> to ex-football player <a href="/news/articles/1652213/jessica-simpson-engaged-to-eric-johnson.jhtml">Eric Johnson</a>.

"We have not started planning," Simpson said recently. "I'm trying to get through all this promotion [for my Christmas album]. … Who knows what will happen?"

Describing the upcoming ceremony as "simple," Simpson added that she wanted to be married by Christmas 2011. "I personally have no idea. I have not set a date and I can't even think about putting together, like, table settings and all that," she said. "We're just going to enjoy the engagement and we'll get married the moment we feel like it."

Adele’s 21 Tops Albums Chart For 18th Time

Tim McGraw, Lamb of God also make appearances in top 10.

By James Montgomery

Adele's 21

<P>Hey, guess what? <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a> is #1 on the <i>Billboard</i> albums chart again.

Yes, for the 18th time, the British belter's <i>21</i> claims the top spot, selling nearly 116,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:625257" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

The album has now tied Garth Brooks' <i>Ropin' the Wind</i> for 18 non-consecutive weeks at #1; she needs just three more weeks atop the chart to move past the "Bodyguard" soundtrack and Elvis Presley's <i>Blue Hawaii,</i> both of which notched 20 weeks at #1.

As is usually the case, Adele makes it look easy. Her closest chart competition comes in the form of <b>Tim McGraw</b>'s <i>Emotional Traffic,</i> which scores the week's biggest debut, opening at #2 with sales of nearly 68,000 copies. <b>Lamb of God</b>'s <i>Resolution</i> bows at #3, selling almost 53,000 copies. The <i>2012 Grammy Nominees</i> compilation (more than 52,000 copies sold) and <b>Ingrid Michaelson</b>'s <i>Human Again</i> (nearly 40,000 copies sold) round out the top five.

The 21st installment of the ubiquitous <i>Kidz Bop</i> series is next at #6, with sales of more than 33,000 copies, followed by former "American Idol" firecracker <b>Kellie Pickler</b>'s <i>100 Proof</i> (more than 27,000 copies) at #7, <b>Seal</b>'s <i>Soul 2</i> (slightly more than 27,000 copies) at #8, <b>Drake</b>'s <i>Take Care</i> (more than 26,000 copies) at #9 and <b>Kari Jobe</b>'s <i>Where I Find You</i> (nearly 25,000 copies) at #10.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:627854" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

Outside the top 10, there are debuts from the expansive four-disc <b>Bob Dylan</b> tribute <i>Chimes of Freedom,</i> which bows at #11 with sales of more than 22,000 copies (the two-disc version opens at #39), and <b>Lacuna Coil</b>, whose <i>Dark Adrenaline</i> opens at #15 with sales of nearly 20,000 copies.

On next week's chart, Adele faces new challenges from the likes of <b>Leonard Cohen</b>'s <i>Old Ideas</i> and <b>Lana Del Rey</b>'s <i>Born to Die</i>.</p>

Skrillex, Foster The People Remember 1991: When Rock Rocked

With the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind around the corner, today’s biggest acts recall 1991′s other classic albums.

By James Montgomery

I <i>loved</i> playing their records, and that one always stuck out to me. It had so much grit, and that was rock and roll at that time of my life."

<P>Mother Monster is readying her next tour, the <i>Born This Way</i> Ball.

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> took to <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga" target="_blank">Twitter</a> to let her fans know that on Tuesday, she will unleash images of the stage design for the tour, which is set to launch later this year. She added that she was brewing up a number of other tour-related projects and wrote, "putting the set list together!"

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717952" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

Over the last few weeks, Gaga has been tweeting frequently about the upcoming outing, noting that she's been in meetings with her Haus and watching old Monster Ball Tour videos that "made us cry. We love u, can't wait for the next one."

Haus member and <a href="/news/articles/1675649/lady-gaga-born-this-way-tour.jhtml"><i>BTW</i> producer Fernando Garibay</a> shared with MTV News in December that the show will be reflective of the 2011 album. "This album was the most personal [because of] the amount of detail that went into this record, the amount of passion [and] emotion from her and the team," he said. "Every song was a story towards the <i>Born This Way</i> theme. We're excited now, putting that into the tour and expressing that on a live performance level.

"You can imagine what happened on the <a href="/news/articles/1658395/lady-gaga-monster-ball-new-york.jhtml">Monster Ball</a>, so use your imagination," he said. "That's what's going to happen, exaggerated."
Until Gaga does hit the road, she revealed what she'll be doing come this Sunday. "Looking forward to seeing the Superbowl! The halftime show will be wonderful, I'm sure," she tweeted. "An excuse to drink beer+watch boys in tights. #yes."

Madonna is slated to take the stage during the <a href="/news/articles/1678459/pussycat-dolls-madonna-super-bowl.jhtml">Super Bowl halftime show</a>. She recently made headlines when she called Gaga's song <a href="/news/articles/1677260/madonna-lady-gaga-born-this-way.jhtml">"Born This Way" "reductive,"</a> subsequently complimenting her <a href="/news/articles/1677306/madonna-lady-gaga-graham-norton.jhtml">"rawness."</a>
